What is the GRE scope?

A good GRE score is a must for the admission process. It can also offset a bad GPA and can help in securing fellowships.


Who is Eligible to Take the GRE?

You can apply for GRE if you have a bachelor’s degree in any field from a recognised institute or university, whether it is Arts, Science, Business, Law, or Engineering. ETS has not imposed any restrictions on eligibility to take the GRE.


How long is the GRE exam?

The GRE is roughly 3 hours and 45 minutes long. The GRE AWA section is for 1 hour; the GRE verbal sections are for 30 minutes each and the math sections are 35 minutes each. The GRE experimental section can be for 30 or 35 minutes. Along with the breaks in between, the test is for nearly 3 hours and 45 minutes.


What material is tested on the GRE?

There is no specific material being tested on the GRE.  Let us see what’s tested on each section of the test:

Analytical Writing: Two essays to ‘analyze an issue’ and ‘analyze an argument’ in which Reasoning, argumentative and writing skills are tested.

Verbal Reasoning: Comprehending and Vocabulary skills are tested in Reading comprehension, Text Completion, and Sentence equivalence questions.

Quantitative Reasoning: Algebra, Arithmetic, Geometry, Data Analysis.


What do I need to bring with me to the testing center?

Items that you have to bring to the computer-delivered GRE test center are:

  • Original Valid ID Proof (which is used while registering the test)
  • Confirmation email print out or Authorization Voucher.
  • Jacket – optional (test centers are often cold)

Items that can be bought to the test center but have to be kept in the locker outside the test center and can be accessed during the breaks.

  • Water
  • Snacks

How should I prepare for the GRE exam?

You have to take a diagnostic (full-length) GRE test to set the baseline. This will help you know where you stand and how far are you from your target score.  Accordingly, choose a course or books to help you prepare for the test.

Here are some tips to help you prepare for the GRE exam:

1. Know the rules of the game – Get thorough with the structure, format, and scoring of the test.
2. Review the essentials (basic concepts) required for the test. For verbal, learn vocabulary and for math, learn the basics of the math topics tested.
3. Learn techniques, strategies and pacing tips to boost your score.
4. Practice questions from standard GRE materials.
5. Take GRE Full-length practice tests at regular intervals and review the test to learn from the mistakes.

How is the GRE exam delivered?

In India, the GRE General Test is a computer-delivered test, which means the entire test is administered via a computer in Prometric test centers.


How to book a GRE slot?

Create an ETS account at ets.org. GRE test is offered at a test center or at home. Appointments are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. Register early to get your preferred test date and test location.


How many times can I take the test?

You can take the GRE revised General Test once every 21 days, up to five times within any continuous rolling 12-month period (365 days). It will be counted as an attempt even if you cancel your GRE test scores. You can retake the GRE test any number of times in your lifetime.


What is the GRE total score?

There are three different scores on the GRE –

  • AWA score – this ranges between 0-6.
  • Verbal score – this ranges between 130-170
  • Quantitative score – this ranges between 130-170. 

These individual scores are accompanied by the corresponding percentiles.

Generally, the total score is considered as the sum of the Verbal and Quant score which ranges from 260-340.


What are the GRE cutoff scores for universities?

There is no general cut-off for GRE scores. This depends on two factors -the course selected and the ranking of the University.


What is an average GRE score?

The average scores for the different sections on the GRE are 150 for the Verbal, 153 for the Math, and 3.5 for the AWA.

How do I start preparing for GRE?

You should start by taking one GRE mock exam to determine your eligibility before deciding how to proceed with the GRE preparation. This diagnostic score will help you determine which universities you should apply to based on your desired score.

Here are some tips for your GRE prep:

  1. Read a lot of nonfiction that is analytical.
  2. Maintain a consistent GRE study schedule.
  3. Take a few practise exams.

What IS GMAT?

The Graduate Management Admission Test, aka the GMAT, is a multiple-choice, computer-based and computer-adaptive standardized exam that is used globally for admission to graduate management / business programs (such as MBA programs).


What is the purpose of GMAT?

Designed by business schools for business schools, the GMAT exam assesses the skills most relevant to success in a graduate management program. More than 200,000 business school candidates per year take the GMAT exam exclusively for application to graduate management education programs.


What is the fee for GMAT exam?

GMAT Exam Fees 2023

The GMAT fees in India is $275 (nearly Rs. 22,800) for the GMAT exam taken at a test centre and $300 (nearly Rs. 24,600) for the online GMAT exam. In addition, if the applicants want to reschedule their GMAT 2023 exam or want to cancel it, they will have to pay a certain fee.


What Is the GMAT Format?

The GMAT has 4 sections as follows:
1. Analytical Writing Assessment – 1 Topic – 30 Minutes
2. Integrated Reasoning – 12 items – 30 Minutes
3.Quantitative – 31 Questions – 62 Minutes
4. Verbal – 36 Questions – 65 Minutes
There are 3 select section orders available:
1. AWA, IR, Quant, Verbal
2. Verbal, Quant, IR, AWA
3. Quant, Verbal, IR, AWA
Two optional 8-minute breaks are allowed at relatively even time intervals throughout the exam based on section order selection


What is the process of GMAT Online Application?

Step 1: Create an account on by clicking on “Sign up” in the top right of the screen in mba.com

Step 2: Click on the “Exams” tab. Select GMAT Exam. Click on the Register for the GMAT exam

Step 3: Keep your passport with you and enter the same personal details (Full name as in passport, address, email id, phone number, gender, nationality, date of birth, and payment details)

Step 4: You may choose to enter optional details about your academic scores and work experience. GMAT account processing team will verify your profile. This may take up to 48 hours.

Step 5: After verification, you can schedule your exam by selection location, date, and time. You can select upto 3 test centers near your location. From the available date and time slots, you can choose whatever is convenient for you.

Step 6: Make a payment of 250 USD to complete registration for GMAT. You may take the GMAT Online test upto 2 times, with a gap of 16 days in between. These attempts are counted in limits set by GMAC(5 attempts in a rolling year, 8 attempts in a lifetime)


What documents do I need for GMAT registration?

To register for the GMAT you need

– details from valid(not expired) passport such as name, date of birth, etc. Passport is the ID proof accepted for GMAT exams, so the name and date of birth details given at the time of registration should match the details in the passport. The details entered during registration will be verified with the actual passport on the day of the exam.

– payment details (For example credit card or debit card details) From April 8, 2021, onwards for the GMAT Online (at home test), you can also use Aadhar card for ID proof. Even if you choose to register for the exam using your Aadhar card, it is recommended that you keep your passport also with you.


Who authorizes the GMAT syllabus?

GMAC (Graduate Management Admission Council) prescribes the GMAT syllabus.

Is GMAT compulsory for MBA?

However, the GMAT exam is mandatory for many full-time MBA programs. And in this article, we would like to highlight some major reasons why you should take the GMAT exam while applying for a full-time MBA!

Is GMAT tougher than CAT?

A: The difficulty level of both CAT and GMAT exams is high. However, GMAT is considered easier than CAT as it has a predefined syllabus unlike CAT. Also, in GMAT candidates can make multiple attempts.

  • Is GMAT is tough?

GMAT exam (Graduate Management Admission Test) is generally considered to be a challenging exam. The average GMAT score is 574.51 out of 800, which is 71.8% and it falls between 52 to 55 percentile. However, if you devote 3-6 months sincerely towards your GMAT exam preparation, you can easily score 700 and above.
