All applicants seeking to work as a pharmacist in the united kingdom must register with the general pharmaceutical council (gphc).
To apply for registration, international applicants with qualifications acquired outside the eea must complete the gphc overseas pharmacists assessment programme (ospap).
This is a postgraduate diploma completed as the first step towards registration for persons who have qualified as pharmacists outside of the EEA.
The OSPAP is a one-year course designed to guarantee that those who have qualified overseas obtain the necessary knowledge and training in order to practise in the UK and begin pre-registration training.
The OSPAP course is open to persons with an overseas pharmacy qualification who are registered or eligible to register as chemists in their home country.
Aston University, University of Brighton, University of Hertfordshire, Kingston University London, and University of Sunderland now offer the OSPAP program. Following completion of the OSPAP course, applicants must complete the following tasks:
Your tutor must approve 52 weeks of pre-registration training in England, Scotland, or Wales.
If your pharmacy qualification is not assessed as equal to at least a UK bachelor’s degree in pharmacy, you must carry out an assessment of the syllabus of the degree that you studied.
All applicants will require a Tier 2 visa (sponsored by the applicant’s employer).
A biometric residence permit (BRP) is a card issued to foreign nationals that contains your biographic facts (name, date, and place of birth), ‘biometric information’ (fingerprints and digital facial image), and specifies your immigration status and entitlements while in the UK.
When an individual applies for a visa or immigration, they are automatically issued a BRP. In passports, a 30-day sticker or vignette is issued, enabling adequate time to go to the UK. You will have ten days after your arrival to collect your BRP from a post office branch, as specified in your decision letter.
Verification of identity checks is used in the NHS as part of the recruitment process to ensure that an identity is real and belongs to the person presenting it.
BRP cards can be used to verify identity and complete this check.
